In “ABA On Call” episode #7, CentralReach Director of Research, Dr. Rick Kubina and his colleague Dr. Doug Kostewicz are talking about the applications of Applied Behavior Analysis to adult learning.
As a special bonus, Rick and Doug welcome CentralReach’s Dr. Shannon Hill, BCAB-D. Hill is the Senior Learning Designer for CR Institute – the research and educational arm of CentralReach – and has extensive experience working with all types of learners, consulting in educational settings, and is considered a prominent thought leader in the field of ABA and adult education.
“ABA applies everywhere,” said Hill. “One of the big eye-opening times for me was when I started teaching with non-traditional students… they did a lot better when we started doing ‘role-playing’ and we started using a more rapid and dense reinforcement schedule – but it also brought up the question: ‘what are the reinforcers they are looking for that are the most motivating?’”
The trio also discusses some important details around the recent Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) course changes put into place by the Board Analyst Certification Board (BACB) on November 1, 2019.
The new updates mean:
- Old 40-Hour RBT courses will no longer be valid; check to ensure that any courses you provide staff meet the 2nd RBT Task List.
- Technicians who took the old RBT course may need a “bridge” course, providing additional RBT training content, if they have not passed the RBT exam prior to November 1, 2019.
- To supervise, new BCBAs, BCBA-Ds, or BCaBAs will need to take an 8-Hour Supervision Course that complies with the BACB’s new Supervision Training Curriculum v 2.0.
